Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma of English literature. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, Mitchell joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). A few years later, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Then, in 1992 she was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both the host and panelist for the TV news program Meet the Press. She was a member of a panel for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her role in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Her reporting included a number of significant stories, including the Iran-Contra controversy, budget and tax reform, as well as the arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively together with the president Reagan during summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
